It's a story we've all heard before - ferrets severely neglected by
their owners and dumped off at shelters. Little hope and her brother,
were starving and flea-ridden, living in a cage on the front porch of a
home in upstate New York - in the middle of winter! Hope's former owner
mistakenly thought the ball on her tummy was from pregnancy. In fact
the "fetus" was a tumor due to advanced adrenal disease that was never
treated. The tumor was dragging on the floor and putting her at risk
for a possibly fatal infection. With donations from the Blizzard
Memorial Fund, SOS was able to help the Lakeroad Ferret Farm & Rescue
in Naples, NY pay for surgery to remove the tumor and a Deslorelin
implant. Hope is now recovering well and is now able to climb into
her hammie and is enjoying life - probably for the first time ever!

The Blizzard Memorial Fund was established to honor the memory of
Blizzard - a very special and much loved ferret - for survivors just
like little Hope.
