My 2 year old (soon 3 year old) ferret has been having some health
issues as of last week. Last week when I picked her up for playtime
from her cage she was limp in my hand. I put her down on the table and
she couldnt lift her head up and when I picked up her paw it fell to
the ground. Took her to a ferret vet the next day, I suspected
insulinoma but the vet said that she doesnt exhibit any classic
symptoms and honey on her gums perked her up a bit, but not much. She
got x-rayed for a blockage, there was a bit of thicker intestine but
not a clear blockage and the second barium x ray showed no blockage.
The vet told me to watch her, and if anything changes bring her back
in. Last week her poops were small and black as of the weekend they are
formed and formal. She is eating on her own, but im also supplementing
with duck soup. However now almost 5 days later she is still lethargic
and has about 20% of her normal energy, walks a bit and lies down to
fall asleep wherever. She wobbles a bit while walking but that could be
due to her large bloated belly (sometimes more, sometime less bloated).
These are her only symptoms. I am concerned because the symptoms are so
vague and I worry about the size of her belly (could it be gas?). My
other weasels are fine. Does anyone have any ideas what I should be
looking for?
