Wow. Seems like I missed a good one with staking biting ferrets? Hot
subject here kiddo's! I kinda fell in on yesterday's post, while
missing the day before's so I can only comment on what I have seen
today.

Uhm, where to start? First of all - remember everyone - this is NOT
a BASHING community anymore!! We are here to share advice and give
helpful advice. Sometimes, other people's advice may differ from what
we do. And sometimes there is someone who needs our advice more than
ever, which I think is the case here. Not bashing, just advising.

Having said that - I have to comment on the "fasting" ferrets, as well
as feeding ferrets vegetables. First - the veggies. While it is thought
to be a great touch, I have been advised that ferrets have ONE set of
intestines, not two. Why is this important? Because the anatomy of a
ferret does not allow for the proper absorption of vegetables, fruits
or their minerals. Or so I am told. Someone GENTLY correct me if I am
wrong, kk? My Vet has shown me several studies that prove that the meat
eaters are meat eaters for a reason, and sometimes feeding veggies to a
meat eater can cause issues. Again, I AM NOT POSITIVE about all this -
so for safety's sake, I just make sure that I feed my kids kibble, and
meats. So I personally would never advise anyone to "blend da veggies
up" and feed em to the fuzzies.

Second and most important - fasting ferrets. I have NEVER seen a
circumstance where fasting a ferret was ever advised, done, or even
advised to be done. Ferrets have such small body mass, and lose weight
RAPIDLY if they do not have their daily caloric intake. Try to remember
that their little bodies run through calories very fast, and they're
metabolism goes at high speed. Fasting them does NOT do anything except
make them weaker. Anyone who wishes to take this approach should try
fasting THEMSELVES for two weeks. That is the human equivilant to what
was proposed for the ferrets.

And final note: What the hell is "staking a ferret"? Somebody please
tell me that it does not mean "tying your ferret outside on a stake".
Please. Pretty please.....I had a biter. She was a mean un too! And I
found that through love, patience and kindness - she stopped biting. I
neither had to cage her all the time, and never would I EVER consider
"staking" her butt outside. But then again, I am only me and just
because I do things one way, doesn't make my way right all the time
either. But I know alot of you out there think like I do. I think this
List is a good place to TEACH others. That's why we're all here, isn't
it?
