Greetings for my human Mom
Mom, I love you dearly,
I love you with all my heart,
I never would have left you
But Death tore us apart.
Thank you for all you did for me
You let me share your home.
I would have had a different one
If I were free to roam.
The cage you gave me for my home,
Was large and clean and neat.
But it was still a cage dear Mom
Time out was such a treat.
I'd snuggle in my hammock,
I'd wonder where I'd be,
If I had not been in a cage,
If I had been born free.
I dreamed of grass all wet with dew,
Of leaves on the woodland floor.
A cool wind blowing in my face
No bars or latch-hooked door.
Now I climb to heights unknown,
My heart is wild and free.
I have no bars around me now,
So please don't cry for me.
