From your post it sounds as if you are doing the "quick autopsy"
yourself! Why aren't these mysterious white, cartilaginous objects
being examined by your vet and sent off for pathology reports?

Blackness of liver sounds like internal bleeding. And may be the
reason the ferret didn't like to scrape his belly over edges of the
litter pan.

Are you really performing your own dissections?
