Holly went to the ferret specialist today. Both scent glands were
infected, though she could still spray out of one of them. Doc said the
infection wasn't as bad as it could have been. Holly was sedated with
gas for two minutes, while Doc expressed her glands. Awful-smelling
puss came out. Holly will be on antibiotics for ten days. Her behind is
a bit painful, but she acts like that discomfort isn't as bad as what
she was feeling before.
Sorry this post is lacking in details, but I am exhausted from too
little sleep and too many worries. It is at the point that I am having
to choose between paying vet bills or home-related bills. The pets come
first, but I've never been behind on my home bills before. Many folks
have been hit bad because of the economy, which meant there were more
ferts that needed homes. I've taken in eight in less than a year,
though one has already passed. There have been three cases of adrenal,
one partially paralyzed ferret, now the scent gland issue, and a cat
that had teeth pulled (vet bills all falling within three months). I
am overwhelmed, as so many of you are. The worries just hit too hard
sometimes. My peace of mind is in pieces, but I am still thankful that
Holly will be fine.
With respect,
Lori in Ohio
