At this time there are NO airlines that will accept ferrets as carry
on in the cabin. Once Delta and Northwest merged even though they have
the Delta name they have the Northwest pet rules. Ferrets will have to
travel as checked luggage now. That isn't too bad if you have a direct
flight. If you have hops you have to allow enough time between the
hops. Also you will no longer be able to travel with ferrets during the
summer months or anytime the weather is too warm due to the airlines
weather restrictions for pet travel. Dog show folks with dogs too large
for the carry on rules have checked their dogs as luggage for years.
Some airlines are better than others handling pets. You need to check
it out and decide what you are comfortable with.
Personally I think there needs to be a letter writing campaign done
like the last time Delta banned ferrets from in the cabin. It worked
that time, don't know if it will this time due to all the other changes
the airlines have made this past year.
