Just wanted to remind people to double check the laws in their states
concerning skunks if anyone was considering getting one. Skunks are
illegal outright in 30 of the 50 states. The others have restrictions
on what types, such as black and white, hooded, etc. Some of the
'legal' states require permits, our outside cages or runs. Diets are
a handful. Also, skunks are a bit different than ferrets in that they
can bite harder, have larger jaws, have to be neutered and spayed at
a later age, and can be somewhat more destructive when it comes to
carpets and walls. They can take things pretty personally so you have
to be careful when disciplining them. In fact if you've ever seen or
had a potbelly pig - they can be about just as demanding, smart, and
stubborn.
