The Senior Biologist from Cal Fish and Game, a Mr. Ron Jurek, was so
dead set against ferret legalization (he was quoted as saying "not on
my watch".) has retired and been replaced by a hand picked replacement
that really may be no better. although he is willing to listen. I have
been trying, so far unsuccessfully, to obtain some appendices from Ron
Jurek's vast store of publications that he wrote/collected over his
tenure at CDF&G. However, since Fish and Game moved their offices
recently, all Jurek's "stuff" is sequestered away in a basement of
disorganization (ever see that Indiana Jones flick where they wheel the
Ark of the Covenant into an Army storage Warehouse.never to be seen
again?). The new biologist, whom I talked with a few months ago, has
promised that one of his main goals it to organize Jurek's papers and
have them scanned and hence computerized.making them available thru
the Cal State Library. But who knows how long this will take. meanwhile
all I can do is keep asking on a regular basis and hope. By the way the
appendix I am looking for is from Jurek's "Survey of State Agencies"
regarding ferrets.their legalization status etc.. The online version
that is available through Cal Fish and Games website does not have
Appendix B available and it is generally acknowledged that it is
hidden away in that basement. AND it may be of importance in future
legalization efforts. Until I have it in hand, I can't say.

Putorius
