Kimberley, You don't mention whether you also stopped the Lupron, when
you stopped the Melatonin nor what the side effects were that compelled
you to stop giving it. Perhaps you had posted that information earlier
and I missed it.
I understand that given his advanced age he is not a suitable surgical
candidate. However, he needs to be kept on Lupron at the very least,
especially if he's at risk for a blockage from the enlarged prostate. A
ferret with a blockage will die painfully within 10 hours if there is
no intervention. If he is starting to experience problems urinating and
you already know he has an enlarged prostate it is critical to get him
on the Lupron asap. He may also have developed a concommittent urinary
tract infection. Has a urine culture been done?
A large gib requires at minimum 200 mcg. (or more) of the one-month
Lupron Depot. Herbs and supplements like Saw Palmetto work fine if
taken in conjunction with Lupron and/or Melatonin but are not a
substitute for either.
