I've been reminded lately about the extreme need of many shelters. At
times some ferrets need to wait for treatment until sufficient funds
can be collected.
During the best of times funds are scarce. And these aren't the best
of times -- every dollar is precious and should be used to the best
advantage.
Thus, this isn't a plea for money but a plea to spend wisely. Remember
to try to donate money directly to a veterinary hospital if it's for a
particular ferret in distress. And for lesser-known shelters a call to
the vet hospital might be in order. (Although, most clinics won't give
detailed information about a client, often sufficient details, such as
verification that a balance is outstanding, can be inferred to enable
you to make a sound decision.)
I don't intend to suggest shelters and organizations such as S.O.S. are
not worthy of donations. They absolutely are. But every now and then an
odd request is posted which deserves a bit more research.
Also, please remember to check for needy shelters offering supplies via
raffles or sales, either directly or via places like eBay.
THANK YOU ALL for your tremendous generosity!
