From
http://www.ferretcongress.org/sym2008/default.html
(your site to learn about registration, hotel, and events of the 2008
IFC Ferret Symposium)

Veterinary Speakers include:
Dr. Joerg Mayer - on chemotherapy in ferrets
Dr. Ruth Heller - distemper and her vaccination titer study
Dr. Sandra Snell - alternative medicine
Dr. Lauren Powers - knowing when to say "when" and the importance of
    necropsy
Dr. Karen Purcell - new infectious diseases
Dr. Sandra Kudrak Mitchell - Cardiology
Dr. Robert Wagner - pre- and post-natal care of ferrets for breeders
and those who are thinking of breeding. (Break-out group)

A bit that i have learned about these vets, two recently but others
through the years:

Dr. Sandra Kudrak Mitchell
considers the education of ferret owners to be important. So besides
having her own animal hospital and working with the IFC and others
trying to improve USDA APHIS regulations for ferrets she has also
written plain-speaking and informative articles on ferret health for
Ferrets Magazine and the new electronic version of that magazine.

Dr. Robert Wagner
is a greatly respected research vet who has helped advance treatments
for ferrets. Within the general ferret community he may be best known
for his endocrinology work to benefit ferrets, so people will get to
learn about his wider expertise while learning about safe breeding
practices.

Dr. Karen Purcell
may be most renowned in the ferret world for her vet text _Essentials
of Ferrets, a Guide for Practitioners_, a text that is so clearly
written that non-vets also find it to be a very useful reference.

Dr. Joerg Mayer
should come to mind each time a person hears about the Tufts Protocol
for ferrets who have lymphoma. An expert on oncology (the study of
malignancies and how to approach them most successfully), Dr. Mayer
lends hope to times when some might be tempted to just give up.

Dr. Ruth Heller
is familiar to the thousands of people who have read the Ferret Health
List and vet posts carried from there to the Ferret Mailing List, and
certainly to all American Ferret Association members who know her work
to learn enough about how Canine Distemper vaccine behaves in ferrets
to hopefully ultimately allow fewer CD vaccinations while still
providing enough protection.

Dr. Sandra Snell
as well as being a traditional veterinarian is also a CVA, Certified
Veterinary Acupuncturist who has interests in a range of alternative
veterinary medicine techniques to compliment traditional care, and
practices in Ohio.

Dr. Lauren Powers
did post doctoral work on birds in Tufts University, underscoring her
commitment with extra education. She works closely with the main ferret
shelter in NC: Ferret Guardian Rescue, and has also participated in
individual rescue situations to help ferrets.

There are also other speakers, from an animal behaviorist from whom I
want to learn more to an ace photographer who knows more than I ever
hope to know about photography, and much more:

With family needs changing this is my own first year attending and I
didn't know for sure that I could until just last week, though I helped
plan something like 4 of the other IFC symposia and fora in the past.
Cool! A new adventure just when I need one.

I look forward to meeting you in Pittsburgh in early November!
