I have a fun way to help keep ferrets busy and cool in the hot months,
provided you have a protected floor or even a large piece of linoleum.
I take a big dish pan and fill it with filtered water and then put a
towel down under it (be careful not to have the towel too big as you do
not want them to drag part of the towel in the water, you can fold a
towel in half or use a hand towel). I then put ice cubes in it on hot
days and watch the ferrets play in the water, bobbing for ice cubes.
You can also use ping pong type balls for something different, which
they will actually chase around the water and try and sometimes succeed
to retrieve out of the water. They absolutely love it. I also place a
metal bowl filled with ice cubes and a little water and they enjoy
tipping the bowl and getting the ice cubes out or chasing the last cube
in the bowl in circles! If you have wooden floors you can buy a good
sized piece of linoleum and place the dish pan in the center and watch
the fun. I always try to come up with ways to keep the ferts busy.
A cheap way for run through tubing for ferrets is to go to your local
home improvement center and ask for their empy cardboard rolls that
linoleum and carpeting comes in. You can let them scoot to the end of
the tube facing you and gently lift and let them slide down, which they
love and will come back for more sliding.
You can also use a low large plastic storage box and fill the bottom
with the ping pong type of balls which you can get at a discount type
of store for cheap. The kids have a ball in it playing!
Of course I had to get a Ferret Tower of fun for the ferrets made by
Cindy and Tom Scheidt. Am waiting for its arrival and the fun and
entertainment it will bring to the furkids.
