Lime (calcium oxide) is strongly basic (alkaline) and will likely cause chemical burns if used in such a situation. It's a LOT different putting it in a litter box compared to putting it on a dung heap that is a way from animals. Some tissues are more sensitive to such burns such as eyes, but serious injury could happen anywhere to a ferret from trying that and it could also lead to a poisoning situation. http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic777.htm Scroll to "cement burns" then a bit past halfway down the page go to "Treatment" and "medical care" as well as "others" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_burn and there is loads more out there.
