As anyone who has followed work like that on adrenal disease and things
which ultimately create too high levels of LH in ferrets' bodies knows,
this is also related to ferret health (possibly even more so since they
are descended from burrow dwelling animals whose main time of activity
was in low light periods such as dawn and dusk, i.e. crepuscular):

There are some useful posts in the FHL and FML Archives on the
importance of darkness, including in FHL posts from
AFERRETVET
(Dr. Jerry Murray)
and info can also be found on how amber light is the least problematic
for night lighting while lights that are high in blue components are
the worst and green the second worst. Info on that is also in the two
archives.
(The news article says "red" so I have sent a note asking that it be
forwarded to the author in case info has changed, and will also search
later. Everything I have read so far in the last 2 years says that
amber is best rather than red or yellow.)
