Well, here I am asking once again for help and opinions. I would like
to thank everyone that has given me advise and help in the past.

My problem this time is ear mites. I noticed my three ferrets
scratching excessively all over, but the ears were really the worst.
I took them to the vet and had a cytology done. She said they had ear
mites and prescribed Cerumite to be used twice a day for 7-10 days,
then stop for 5 days and resume for 5 more days. When I took off the
label the clinic put on the bottle, the directions said to use no more
than twice in a week. Is there a different protocol for ferrets, or did
the vet make a mistake? I did three rounds of the medicine, (before I
thought to take the label off and read the original instructions. They
still had very pink ears, so I took him back in, and this time they say
it is yeast. They also said that if there are persistent problems (with
ear mites), that the mites could be in the carpet. I have all hardwood
floors, not one piece of carpet in the house. I do however have a
matress that was in a storage bldg for a while, and was told they could
be in there. I asked what could I treat the bed with and was told by
the vet to call Orkin.

Not being able to afford to buy a new matress right now, can anybody
tell me what to do, or should I just throw it out and sleep on the
futon? I really am not totally comfortable with the diagnosis of ear
mites the first time, now yeast. We all know about the ugly reddish
ear wax ferrets have, and so have to wonder if ear mites were really
seen or just the YUK. I will not let my babies suffer no matter the
cause, just asking for advice or similar experiences.
