We've found that some ferrets just don't like having to back up into
litter and do their thing. We also have a multi-level cage, and what
we've been trained by the ferrets to do is to put only newspaper in
their poop area. No litter, no litter pans. This bathroom area is one
half of the lowest level of the cage. We line that one-half of the
level with a good amount of newspaper and then peel off layers and
throw them away as they are soiled. We also change all of the paper at
least twice daily. None of the ferrets has gone anywhere in the cage
except for on the paper since we started doing it that way (and it's
been the better part of a year now). And, they also look for the
newspaper on the floor when outside of the cage (although they have
a less than perfect record there...)
