I posted privately to you with more details but I think this is
something everyone should know ...
My Albert is having the same problems.
He has a CYST on his prostate causing the pus to block him up. ABout
one month after his last adrenal surgery (He then had both out) He
started straining to go to the bathroom.
Took him to the Weekend vet and she had to unclogged (catheter sp?)
him and give him lots of fluids to flush his kidneys (I had waited a
day thinking the straining was a poopie issue)
Put him on antibiotics and he was good to go ..... FOR ANOTHER MONTH,
almost to the day he started straining to go to the bathroom. Well
this time I knew exactly what was going on, I called my vet on SUNDAY
MORNING, and she met me at the clinic and once again a catheter was
inserted and more pus/blood/pee came out.
An ultrasound later and we found the cyst, which is NOT normal. We
had given him the regular dose of Lupron after the first incident but
totally was not thinking that his Lupron dose was DOUBLE therefore the
single dose would not help him as he was used to the double dose......
SO now we are about another3 weeks out and I am holding my breath. I
did see a little snot on his belly monday but I got antibiotics and
hopefully that will kick it, and not cause the any more.
The moral of the story is Males seem to sometimes not get their
horomones regulated after adrenal surgery and need a little help (or
do not stop the help if you are doing Lupron shots) for a few months
after their surgery.
Any input on this would be appreciated. I had never heard of it but
the 2 vets I went to said it was soemthing that happens in the males
ferrets.
Hugs,
Staci
