Hi. I'm having a problem and need some help. I live in a large co-ed
fraternity house. The house has been having a flea problem for the past
several months. Flea bombs didn't seem to work very well, so the house
manager had an exterminator come and spray. Apparently there were still some
fleas after the 4 weeks that it was supposed to take effect in. (I never
notice any fleas, but some people here are sensitive to flea bites.) So the
house was just re-exterminated.
What my problem is, is that one person suggested that if the second
extermination didn't work, the house should just not allow pets for a term,
assuming that they must be the problem.
Is this a reasonable solution?? I KNOW that my two ferrets are not a problem.
They are confined solely to my room, I flea-bathe them regularly, and spray
them with flea spray occasionally. I also spray my room every now and then,
just in case. I never notice fleas on them. There is also a cat that has the
run of the house.
Nothing I have ever read regarding flea problems has suggested getting rid of
the animals.
What I need are people to back me up and say that the presence of pets in the
house, if they are well taken care of, won't cause the extermination not to
work.
Otherwise, I may have to send my two babies to my parent's house for a term.
This would not be a problem, my dad loves the ferrets, but I still don't want
this to happen.
Are the pets hurting the efforts to control fleas? Would it make any
difference if the cat were also confined to a room? If there are mice in the
house could they be carrying fleas and contributing to the problem?
Let me know what you think!
Thank you very much,
Jill
