Yes, I could have better articulated my feelings in that post.
For sure we do not need the state to control our ownership of ferrets
but for sure we do need better control of breeders and those who sell
ferrets, in fact all pet animals for sure.
Recently PetSmart was in the news where the supplier of their sale
animals was in desperate need or a tally whacking for such abuse and
horrible treatment of the animals they sell for resale. As to ferret
rescue shelters, I don't find any need for the state to get involved
with them at all other than to better support them. Carol McCraig was a
prime example of how much shelters contribute to the state and society
in general and ask for virtually nothing in return.
All too often in this throw away society we find things that suffer
intolerably and those things are animals. Cats, dogs, ferrets, birds,
all kinds of things suffer at the hands of ignorant uncaring human
owners. So how do we control that? I don't have an answer. Most animals
are treated well, quite well in fact but there are those that are not.
Carol was not guilty of any such maltreatment ever. Her duties as a
shelter care taker got to be a burden greater than her ability to cope
with due to injury and illness she could not over come. The neighbors
were unfair. Who ever turned her in, well, not sure about that but
there for sure was a better way to handle that.
What is done is now history. We can only pick up the pieces and help
Carol pick her life back up and continue on. I continue to support
her and will do so forever.
