Insulinomic Pretty Little Dori Wori:
My 6yo Dori, the 510g runt, is doing better from last Thursday's crash.
Thank you for your emails of hope, advice, prayers. I've been there,
done that with insulinoma and with/without adrenal in the past. Bob
Church's Chicken Gravy has been made (once again) and the three
furballs think I'm the greatest cook. She's on .4 cc Pedi-Pred twice
daily. I like to turn things around when whining - I'm glad I was home
to see the crash and the vet was still open (called while grabbing her
file, dressing/rushing out the door).
If you don't have files on your ferrets, please email me for a MS Word
formatted 'Animal Information Form' that you can fill out for each one
(Name, Age, Vet, Owner, Personality, Medical, etc.).
Public Service Announcement (PSA):
For those of you that get meds for yourself, pets, elderly parents;
check the prescription vs. the bottle information. I have dosed ferrets
for 14 years on a variety of illnesses. So, ...
I picked up Dori's Pedi-Pred med at a well-known US pharmacy Saturday.
(It took me three pharmacies - who doesn't carry a stock of Pedi-Pred?)
Brought the med home, opened the package and was surprised to see a
graduated syringe for 1/mL-6/mL. Looked at the bottle label - 'dispense
4/mL twice daily.' Looked at the script 'dispense .4/cc twice daily.'
(I don't know if you can see the decimal point in email.)
I knew the label was wrong and dispensed correctly - .4/cc. Today
(Monday) I took the script, bottle and the two different syringes to
the Store Manager. I wanted to confront him and not the pharmacist
or the newbie pharmacy clerk. This bottle label error is a serious
problem. My major concern was that one of you had a first time
ferret/child/anyone with a medication and followed the label
instructions. Always keep/request of the prescription and compare
before dispensing.
