I also had a ferret with diabetes several years ago. I know that
sometimes diabetes can occur after insulinoma surgery, but with Fritz
even this wasn't the case. He began to gain weight in March or April
2004 and just continued to get bigger and bigger. He was eventually
diagnosed with diabetes and put on insulin. It didn't matter much as he
was dead a few days later from what we discovered at necropsy to be
liver cancer, which had metastasized all over his body. We are still
not sure how the diabetes played into this whole thing.
