Ok, I have another possibly dumb question, but what about adding
grasshoppers and crickets to my ferrets' diet? They are a VERY high
source of protein. Can ferrets digest insects and would they also be
a part of a natural' diet in the wild? I have heard that the European
Polecat's diet also consists of frogs as well an I was wondering if
they might eat insects or crickets/grasshoppers as well? We may think
of it as gross here in the US but in other countries people eat them
too for their protein (and yes, I know a human diet is different form
an obligate carnivore). AND you can get crickets at ANY pet store too -
plus they are relatively inexpensive. No, I m not thinking of feeding
my ferts strictly insects, just was wondering if any one knows if they
can digest crickets/grasshoppers if ground and added to their soup for
an additional boost of protein. Since no diet or guidelines have been
set for a ferret diet yet I am always open to new ideas that will keep
my babies happy, healthy and live a longer life!
