My understanding is that you need to get a permit from the New York
State Department of Conservation to keep a ferret in New York.  I
don't know if there is any special requiremtn or restriction for New York.
 
About the ferret show:  I have an ordinary ferret.  Why would I want
to take it to a ferret show and (possibly) get it sick?  A ferret show
would be neat, but what do they do there?   Compete for conformance?
