E. coli recall in U.S. Ferrets, both domestic and BFFs, DO get poisoned by E. coli and can die of it. (See archives for abstracts of some studies.) It is not yet on the FDA site but the press is carrying it. For example: <http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/MEAT_RECALL?SITE=CACRU&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT> >The Topps Meat Co. on Saturday expanded its recall of frozen hamburger >patties to include 21.7 million pounds of ground beef that may be >contaminated with E. coli ... >The recall represents all Topps products with either a "sell by date" >or a "best if used by date" between Sept. 25 this year and Sept. 25, >2008. The Elizabeth-based company said this information is found on a >package's back panel. > >All recalled products also have a USDA establishment number of >EST 9748, which is located on the back panel of the package and-or >in the USDA legend, the company said. ... >The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Friday it had suspended the >grinding of raw products at the Topps plant Please, go to the site to read the rest of the article or look for it in your newspaper The recall is not yet on the company's site but hopefully will be later: http://www.toppsmeat.com/news/index.html Sukie (not a vet) Recommended ferret health links: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/ http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/ http://www.ferretcongress.org/ http://www.trifl.org/index.shtml http://homepage.mac.com/sukie/sukiesferretlinks.html [Posted in FML 5746]
