Many thanks to Lisa who passed on to me a news story on the most
recently found pelleted food with melamine used to feed animals who
themselves or whose milk was destined for feeding others (fish, shrimp,
goats, cattle, sheep). It does not sound like the melamine content in
those came from China like these connected Ohio based U.S. branches of
a Canadian company were adding it themselves.
You can find the piece at the International Herald Tribune, titled
Poison used in China is found in U.S.-made animal feed, by Andrew
Martin, Thursday, May 31, 2007
Furthermore, according to the FDA recall site: The Tembec and Uniscope
products also reportedly contain a urea formaldehyde resin-type
ingredient, a raw ingredient used to make the binding agent in these
products. FDA is investigating this use of the urea formaldehyde
resin-type ingredient in the Tembec and Uniscope products, and will
take appropriate regulatory action if warranted.
Despite all the news stories those companies did not follow-up
themselves. Instead a distributor decided to have food tested to know
what the distribution company was selling.
