The faces of FerretWise have grown by one this very cold day in NH. A
4 +/- year old man very thin has arrived sporting some frost bite on
his footpads after being abandoned in a sparse area in Deerfield, NH
on late Thursday night.

We can surmise they did not want to pay a fee to drop him at a local
animal shelter-- or they just did not care for him anymore.. Luckily
for him, there was a barn not far from where he was dropped in the very
cold dead of night that had a warmer corner with hay in it and he was
found by a farmer the next morning. Barn-y is very cat friendly- he
spent a good part of Friday eve sitting on the farmers lap in the
house. He had no problems socializing with their cats. He happily
consumed Science Diet cat food ( though he seems not to care fr any
brand of ferret kibble) He has taken to the shelter soup which should
help him fight off the chill's effects on his diminished body mass.
Barn-y also saw the shelter vet for a quick once over this noon. His
heart was checked, he was palpated and she was pleased his stool output
though small looked relatively unremarkable for a kid that had been
without food water and in the very cold. He will go back for a more
thorough exam on Thursday AM along with necessary blood work & ADV
testing.

The Deerfield, NH police were contacted by FerretWise before we moved
the animal- and of course not a single call had come in reporting a
lost ferret. They do have our information on file for referral.
Unfortunately without so much as a license plate there likely will be
no formal charges brought for this cruelty abandonment. If only I had
my way......

Barn-y is a very mellow dark sable boy who has inquisitive eyes and not
a mean spark in him. He is going through a lot of changes obviously,
and I am looking forward to seeing him gain some needed weight. He has
wonderful dentition though all the canine tips are translucent . He has
rather long nails and smells like hay-- from sleeping in the manger...
I guess he could smell a lot worse :)

I will be happy to forward a pic to those requesting it of the new kid
in his warm hammie. I look forward to finding this kiddo a FOREVER home
where he will never suffer the carelessness and thoughtlessness of
humans again. What kind of person could do such a thing?

Good thoughts are requested so Barn-y can make an easy transition and
start to progress to a decent weight- He weights 1 lb 1 oz today--
small for a boy don't you think? under his fluffy coat you can feel
every bone! I hope we rescued him in time to change his future.
