Dear Ferret Folks-

When we left off, little RJ and Vivian were tucked beneath the
glow-in-the-dark star, moon, and comet blankets in the guest room,
sound asleep. By now it was about 9:45, and Uncle Danny and I had
turned off our lights and snuggled down for the night in our room.
The house was still. Allis Chompers slept in her soft Dog Pillow near
the wood stove in the living room. Nearby, France the Fricken' Pigmy
Hedgehog was starting to move about in the darkness, munching what
was for her morning chow. Sterling the Silver Cat slept in the soft
upholstered rocking chair near the front door. (He likes to be near
the action.) The fish bobbled around like they do, doing fishy things
in the dark. Ping and Puma were snug in their hammies in their tall
cage. (I *insist* that they spend the night there, all other times are
negotiable.)

I was definitely drowsing off, and Uncle Danny was snoring when I heard
a *bad thing* from the guest room next door. It was RJ, and he was
wailing, softly. I put on my robe and made my way to the small child,
who was sitting up in a puddle of stars, moons, and comets, fisting his
eyes and crying, bitterly. I sat down next to him and asked him what
was wrong. Had he wet the bed? (This was an occasional problem.)

"Nooooo....."

Had he had a bad dream?

"Noooo....."

Well, honey, what was wrong, why are you sad?

"IT'S INNA BEEEEEEEED!!!"

What's in the bed?

"FERREDS!!!"

Ferrets?

"FERREDS INNA BEEEEEEED!!!!"

Now, RJ had helped me make that bed, and he knew that Ping liked to
sleep in it when it was all folded up into sofa form. In fact, RJ had
helped me clear some of Ping's stash from the bed before we made it.
Leggos. Bits of foil that chocolate had come wrapped in.

No, honey, there are no ferrets in the bed. They're in their cage,
asleep.

"INNA INNA BEEEEEEED!!!!" (Wailing)

The intensity of his certainty un-nerved me a little bit. I went into
the living room and did a head count. I turned on an overhead light,
and two sleepy mustelids looked up at me, seemingly saying "Can't you
do something about that noise?" I went back to RJ and assured him that
no, I had counted, there were TWO ferrets in the cage, and none in the
bed. Vivian opened one sleepy eye and looked over at RJ as if he were a
member of some alien race, one with multiple heads and tentacles, and
rolled over, stealing some blankets. She promptly closed both eyes and
zonked out. RJ huffed deeply, and threw himself backwards against the
pillows. I thought to myself "There, that's done."

Ha. Ha-ha-ha-ha.
That was not done.
