Saturday 2/9/08 one of our rescues spiked a 104.5 fever-- rear left
foot appeared swollen and a tiny bit of clear discharge from the eyes--
ears appeared a bit dirty nothing more.
We thought originally it was Mallory, case of mistaken Identity--
turns out it was LeLu-- they look so much a like sometimes... Le Lu
is approximately 3 years old ( maybe a bit more)
her weight is 1.4 lb
we took her into the vet-- who Rx -- baytril 6.8 mg suspended 2x daily
we followed this advice ( probably sound) -- as recently as this
morning 2/12 she seemed to be improving and we had separated her
since Saturday to let her recover and just in case it's catching.
this afternoon she took a turn for the worse. she is listing to the
left and twisting her neck around.. first thought was ear infection--
she's walking ( wobbling) in circles and only when encouraged to move
around.. otherwise she's just laying and sleeping.
returned to the vet ( admittedly not a ferret expert-- and within
minutes of my home ) -- no sign of ear infection-- he made a couple
phone calls-- suggested 2.5 mg of pred for tonight and thinks it might
be spinal meningitis
can you offer any additional insight and should I be concerned about
a large scale outbreak
If I see no improvement overnight (doubtful) I was given 2 choices
$1000. cat scan with probable undefinitive results or .... a peaceful
end..
Any advice you can offer appreciated
PRAYERS WELCOME
Lisa
