I'm now back up to seven fuzzies with my recent adopted threesome from
Little Dudes. And this long weekend I'm pet sitting two more. So nine
little beasties are under my care! And I've realized that since I've
only ever had seven as the max having to count up to nine ferrets at
bedtime, well, I'm just not so good at it. Case in point - last night
after putting everyone to bed I watched a movie. And during the movie I
heard the shuffling of ferret feet on my kitchen floor. Johnny Rotten -
what are you doing in there? I went back to the cage - expecting to
find a door left open. But no - somehow I'd forgotten Johnny at roundup
time!
So to make it easier for me to make sure everyone's in the cage I wrote
everyone's names in one column then made a grid next to it. This way I
can check off as I've put away fuzzies and no one will be left out.
And this got me wondering about those of you that have ten, fourteen,
twenty fuzzies. HOW on earth do you do it? How do you not leave a fuzzy
out like I did poor Johnny? When I had seven before and my boyfriend
was helping me round them up we'd end up pulling everyone out of the
cage if we lost count and weren't sure if we had everyone - with
ferrets glaring at us like "Geezus can't you keep us straight???"
I'd love to hear - and I'm sure the rest of the FML would - creative
ideas you've come up with to make sure everyone is present and
accounted for. I'm going to put this metal strip with magnets I got
at IKEA on the wall next to my cage. I'll have seven little magnets -
each with someone's name on them. Push them to one side of the bar when
everyone's out and then back to the other side once they're "put away".
