As a bystander on this issue, I think things are getting a little
out of proportion here and unfortunately the "few" may ruin things for the
"majority".
Chris has been doing one hell of a job as moderator. He has little reward
if any in doing this job except for hearing and talking about a subject
that he seems to love.
Dealing with electronic mail, we have to keep one thing in mind....usually it
is difficult to correctly interpret attitude or emotion from written words.
Those that appear to be upset with Chris seem to think that he was rude or
blunt. Maybe the shortness of his comments to another person came across this
way.
Is it such a big deal that there was a misunderstanding about whether someone
wanted to be subscribed? And once it was realized, he let the person know
that if they wanted answers, he would ship the list to them. I don't think
the list is so huge that this person couldn't parse through them until they
found their answer then unsuscribe! Would that be SO difficult?
Regardless, it was a miscommunication. I think each one of us can
truthfully say it has happened to us before.....we have miscommunicated
and unintentionally hurt feelings.
Personally I think Chris was just "frustrated" that he couldn't figure out
what this person wanted. But that would be reading in between the lines
just as those people who thought it seemed like "anger".
Anyway.....I think the list should go on as before. I think that we should
let Chris deal with the list as he sees fit....after all, he is doing us
a favor in the first place and beggars can't be choosers. I think that
the moderation of the list "in the past" has been well done and adds a touch
of humanity. Nothing I have submitted has been large but it has not been
altered in any way. Moderation may slightly change the look and feel of an
original message but once again......if it bothers you that much, unsuscribe.
Beggars can't be choosers.
That's just my two cents worth. Once again, I hope the "few" don't ruin it
for the "majority".
[Couldn't tell from his first message whether he wanted a subscription or
not. First time I ever got something in ferret-request in 5 years that
wasn't a subscription/desubscription or misdirected message.]
