I haven't read all of the posts but know of the situation and know that
Carol is a good person with good intentions. Everyone needs to realize
that this could easily happen to any one of us if our health suddenly
fails and volunteers are slim to non existent.
Rescue folks are a stoic bunch. We take on the unwanted as the need
arises, putting our own lives to the side...and often times our own
health. I've only been going with a bum foot and know how difficult
that has been, but what about the shelter moms & dads that are battling
serious illnesses like cancer?? Yet they press on.
I think it's a damn shame how badly the authorities have handled
this situation, completely disregarding the shelter mom and over
sensationalizing the situation. Can anyone begin to imagine the sense
of loss she is experiencing right now? Imagine sixty of your babies
seized and for lack of a better word killed. They didn't get even get
a fair medical evaluation because AC simply didn't want to be bothered
and that's a sad fact at MANY animal control facilities. Many of those
lives could have been saved but again, another sad fact is that the
authorities are about control, not the best interests of the animals.
Every one of us has had ferrets in the freezer at any given time. Even
if you have them cremated, you don't get much ash back from one ferret,
so we have several done at once. I am fortunate to finally have a
separate freezer to store them, but few of us have that little luxury.
I just think that it's amazing how the authorities can beat rescue
folks that are trying to solve the problem but don't offer any
solutions to caring for the thousands of unwanted animals. Obviously
euthanizing the innocent victims is not solving the irresponsible
people problem that has reached epidemic proportions.
Btw, there are pics & videos posted of the new ferret room on our
website
