Bacterial dermatitis is rare. In 26 years with ferrets we have had only
ferret with that problem. He has some food allergies and when they are
set off he is prone to secondary bacterial skin infections BUT WE DID
NOT COME TO THIS CONCLUSION LIGHTLY. Instead, we tested: for mites,
for adrenal disease, for cutaneous lymphoma, with skin biopsies, etc.
Pemphigus is yet another skin problem they can get.

In ferrets your description is more common to a combo of ear mites
(possibly with fungal infection) and adrenal disease (AAE) which is
a hyperhormonal disease in ferrets rather than being Cushings. There
are many links in my signature lines to help you learn more.
