I use a flea comb every day on my 2 ferrets, whether they need it or not!!  :)
I have found it to be very good for bonding with your fert especially a  
newcomer. They get used to it and will respond by trying to lick you while you  
are doing it. It ensures you dont get a build-up of loose fur at shedding times  
and removes lugs and anything that may get stuck in the coat.
