My first ferret Belle went everywhere with us. She went to the mall,
Drug Mart, beach, parks, North Ridgeville Corn Festival, K-Mart, etc.
She would ride on a shoulder or snuggle quietly inside a jacket.

In K-Mart one time, my hubby was pushing the cart down an aisle while
Belle stood proudly on top of a large box looking forward like a
masthead on a ship. Two women passed by and one said "Oh isn't that
cute?--EEEK it's alive!!!"

She was even smuggled on an airplane once. (Note: DO NOT TRY THIS NOW!)
The airlines were advertising very cheap fares around Thanksgiving, so
we decided to fly rather than drive to my parents'. But to take Belle
would have cost more than a round trip ticket each way, and we were
very short on funds then. So we checked her carrier and I tucked her
inside my bulky jacket and walked through security. At about that time,
she decided she wanted out of my jacket and started scratching. I had
to put my hand at the top of my coat to keep her from climbing out!

Fortunately, we made it through security without incident, and I went
in the bathroom to transfer her to a zipped carryon bag. But contrary
to her usual behavior, she did not settle down and kept scratching to
get out. That no one noticed amazes me to this day!

As we settled into our seats while the plane was boarding, hubby
unzipped the bag to get his book. MISTAKE!! She shot up his arm onto
his shoulder. I had visions of her running down the aisle as passengers
screamed, but we grabbed her and stuffed her bag in the bag. She
continued scratching to get out most of the flight. Thank heavens it
was a short one!

Linda
