I had a problem with ants in the ferret area recently and found a
granular product that you spread around the perimeter of the house, and
water in.  I can't remember the name of it since I threw out the bag,
but I did go to a feed type store so I could talk with someone who would
be more knowledgeable than your typical bargain store employee.  The bag
was less than $10 and I was able to go around the entire outside of my
house.  I did it right before it was supposed to rain, letting Mother
Nature water it in for me.  I saw a few stray ants over the next couple
of days but haven't seen any since......fingers crossed.
