Thank you, Anne,...your post had even more 'truth' to it than mine!
I still go out & start a V8 engine in the morning, although it`s an 18
yr. old V8,(LOL), because we all 'want' what we 'want'! I know that I
am guilty of falling for the "cute factor" of very young kits offered
for sale, one time from the "pity" gene, and another from the "She
latched on to my finger so hard when I handled her, I HAD to take her
for her own good" factor!!!....
And it`s tough, because we do not learn about shelters, rescues, and
'other' more sane choices until later, when we realize we are
"supporting" exactly what we (I) are complaining about now!....
I now patronize a local, small pet store, which stopped handling ferrets
because of the way they received them from the "Farms", and partially
because of my endless "informative" lectures, from the things I learned
here on the fml. They now carry 'more items' FOR ferrets,(i.e. food,
toys,treats, etc), and point potential buyers of the actual creature,
to the many, many other more humane sources. Ok, you just gotta have
a baby......at least once,...who doesn`t??! The idea of "more flies
w/honey than vinegar" is a very long-awaited suggestion! Ideas like
this, and those from many other posters are great! Perhaps we need to
enlist the help of "politicians"!!,....who are more aware than anyone,
how to juggle the honey & vinegar routine! (LOL)..This has "partially"
begun with the APHIS proposals. This maybe is a good start for
"diplomacy", a proposal from you!
And "Flaming" from me,...well,.....I`ve flicked my Bic enough here when
my mouth was in gear, but my brain wasn`t engaged! It accomplishes
nothing. Once again, thanks, you have quite a few years on me here on
the fml, hence, the more level-headed ideas. I don`t know who said it,
maybe it was me, but "We should be born as smart as we`ll ever be, and
slowly get dumber"!! Such is life!.....
