Well, it is not just that a benign tumor can become malignant over
time, but that some start out as malignant tumors in the adrenals or
the pancreas.
Each time we personally have had ferrets with either lymphoma/
lymphosarcoma or carcinoma either of those organs the onset of symptoms
was very rapid. In fact, when the pancreas was involved both needed
gentle cheek puff artificial respiration to full muzzle to stay alive
to even reach the vets, and one needed her body temp brought up first,
too.
Different diseases can be in the same organs as other illnesses, and
since the same organs are involved the symptoms are similar but with
their own twists.
A week is incredibly fast, though, so if that happens again I STRONGLY
advice necropsy with PATHOLOGY and TOXICOLOGY.
With treatment we got: adrenal carcinoma (cured by surgery -- not
unusual when the growths are encapsulated) adrenal lymphoma (14 more
months of further life -- more than anyone expected) pancreatic
carcinoma (3 months with treatment -- more than anyone expected)
pancreatic lymphoma (9 more months of life -- more than anyone
expected)
Individuals, types of disease, locations, etc. all matter in outcomes.
