anecdote evidence is not data. seems really hard to say whether raw or
kibble is better until there are formal studies comparing the two.
for anybody who has trouble trying NOT to take stories and events that
we hear as the truth (I know I am one of them), I highly recommend
reading "Innumeracy" by John Allen Paulos. its a very readable book
(despite written by a math professor) that helps you understand how to
compare large numbers, how to translate statistical evidence, basically
high school math in day to day life.

one event that happen to me that made me realize how hard it is to
fight off a one off event, is when one of my ferrets reacted to a
cancer drug and passed away. if I hadn't put her on chemo, maybe she'll
have lived another few months until the cancer really took hold. after
all, she was still doing well physically. when a friend's ferret was
going on the same drug, its very hard to ignore the warning bells going
off in my head. as a human, I think I'm wired to panic and to remember
"bad bad thing happened".. I have to keep telling myself that both my
friend and I have had other ferrets where this drug save their lives.
the hospital had used this drug many times without a single reaction.
and despite my heart beating a lot faster, this drug is more likely to
save a ferret than to kill it. logic and statistics win.
on a lighter note, I just want to bring your attention to this little
toy I picked up for my kids. its for kids ages 2 and up, and I think it
is quite safe for the ferrets. I had been looking for one of those
little cars you pulled back and then it'll zoom forward to play with
the ferrets. most of you are probably thinking rubber wheels right now!
they do all seem to come with rubber wheels, which means I have to make
sure I don't forget and leave it with the kids by mistake. the wheels
on this car is plastic, with a thin strip in the middle that is a
little rubbery, but that part isn't accessible to a ferret unless they
flip over the car. mine aren't interested in rubber or flipping cars,
but if you have a rubber addict you'll want to be a bit careful. the
radio controls aren't great, i.e. the car doesn't drive too well. and
being a toy for 2 year olds mean it doesn't go that fast, and stops
easily. I have "hit" the ferrets quite a few times with no damage to
either. and the ferrets love it. I have to say that when I'm driving, I
feel like I'm interacting with the ferrets as a ferret :). the car is
about the size of a ferret and the kids do dance around it :). here's a
web link for the 2 models. I picked mine up at a winners in waterloo.
