My ferret recently lost use in one of her hind legs and 'crawls' to get
around now. Doing so has caused an area above (not on) her vulva (the
size of a quarter) to become irritated. At first it looked like an
Indian sunburn (when someone twists the skin on your arm with both of
their hands in opposite directions) but now it's dark red and moist.
I've tried vaseline and Neosporin but neither is helping. It stays
moist and irritated because she's always rubbing it on the carpet while
crawling and after going to the bathroom. I try to keep the area clean
with baby wipes but the sore is not going away. Does anyone know what
else might help? I've already asked two vets and they didn't know.
What about baby powder or bag balm? I guess I need something that will
protect it and let it dry out at the same time. I'm stumped as to what
might help. Maybe aloe vera gel?

And no flames, please. She is still happy and looks forward to starting
each day. I've done everything I know to and haven't gotten any help.
It could be Insulinoma but Diazoxide and high doses of Pred have not made
any difference. I think it is heart related (dilative cardiomyopathy).
Sadly, I live where there are no *real* ferret vets and those that claim
to be just don't care to find any answers. I've provided cardiologist
contact info but it hasn't done a bit of good and the specialists aren't
going to speak with me. I know because I've tried that too. Had to
drive 1400 miles roundtrip just to be taken seriously and to get a
diagnosis! No kidding, exaggerating or embellishing.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
