So many people make personal resolutions (lose weight, quit smoking, etc)
each year that they break and "Oh well, I can try again next year".
I'm imploring each and every person on the FML to make a resolution this
New Year to help a shelter. Start with a shelter near you. Volunteer to
go once a week a play with the fuzzies, change water and food bowls etc.
Or if you are to far from you nearest shelter, volunteer to help put up
pictures and stories on their petfinder site. Or help with the taxes or
computer stuff that you truly enjoy doing and they never get to. Even
dropping of a load of newpapers, or paper towels. There are soooo many
little things that we can do to help, just ask, and I'm sure they have
lots of ideas. Once you see how rewarding it is to give just a little
to the shelter near you ... expand out and give a gift certificate to a
shelter that is in need -- just ask one of the SOS people and I'm sure
that they have a list of shelters that are on the verge of closing
because of lack of funds.
Please help them ... A shelter Mom said on the FML that you don't have to
like me, just do it for the ferrets (or something close to that). I say,
spend a day, just one day at the shelter from when they get up to when
they go to bed, and you will think the shelter Mom and Dad are angels,
just like the ferrets already know. We all are very eccentric and
different but our one love is the ferrets, without the shelter Mom and
Dad's these ferrets would be dead already ... think of the pleasure you
have gotten from the ones that you have adopted form a shelter... what
if the shelter hadn't been there for them to be dropped of at??? You
precious baby would have died an early death.
Just my two cents for the New Year -- everyone has a talent that can be
used at the shelter. There should be a bumper sticker: "Have you hugged
your shelter Mom/Dad today?????"
Wishing all of you a very good new year, with healthy and happy ferrets.
