And she is right! Our efforts are already bearing fruit (or removing
it!)
Kaytee has announced that they are reformulating their Fiesta Ferret
Diet to remove all pieces of fruit. Most people probably don't know
that Kaytee has been improving this diet for the last several years:
about 2 years ago they removed all pieces of dried vegetables, and
they've reduced the amount of fruit pieces. By sometime this spring
or early summer, ALL fruit will be removed!
Kaytee has also agreed to more closely examine their other ferret
products, especially the treats, and reconsider what is appropriate for
ferrets. They will review the information on their web site, and remove
some incorrect information. They will also look into reintroducing
meat-based treats they had on the market in the past.
But we need to keep the pressure up, so send those emails. Remember
to be polite. It will take a great deal of effort and time to reach
our goals, but we can do it by working together.
Everyone should know that we ARE making progress and we DO have support
within the industry. The Ferret Depot has removed bad foods and treats
from their web site and catalog, and posted notices as to why. The
Ferret Store has labeled "healthy" foods and treats, and added
information on how to choose appropriate products. PETsMART has been
quietly working with manufacturers to improve the quality of ferret
products.
NEVER doubt that a committed group of people can change the world!
