We adopted a ferret from a pet store because we had reason to believe
he'd been abused there. He was seven months old and just cage crazed
jumping repeatedly into the air trying to reach the top. People had
adopted and returned him. When we picked him out of that round cage he
laid my fingers open. I handed him to my husband and soon we both had
bleeding fingers. For two weeks my fingers were too sore to type as we
worked showing him he wouldn't be hurt no matter how much he bit us.
Finally my husband held him to my face and said to tell Taz to give me a
kiss. I was scared, remembering the damage to my fingers but I did and
Taz gave me a lovely kiss and never bit us thereafter. Patience and
gentleness pays.

The worst bite my husband ever got was when he watched me pick up Sylvia
ferret who only liked my son and me. She gave me a kiss and I put her
down. He scooped her up and told her to give him a kiss and she bit thru
his nostril. I told him I thought he'd look great with a nose stud since
he already had the piercing.
