Re: Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts
 
Actually, it was Judy Cooke's letter about the emergency work which gave
all of the details.  She writes better than I do!
 
Everyone at the IFC was given specific work to do in this effort, and
honestly, I can only keep up with some of them because so much labor is
going on behind the scenes.
 
There are some advances the IFC figured people would love to know about.
For some time now there have been shelters and vets helping outside the
worst hit areas, but Sunday marked the first day for vets to be allowed
by the authorities to enter New Orleans.  These first vets in are
specially trained vets working with the ASPCA, and their mission is
multi-fold since they also need to tackle potential zoonotic threats to
human health.  For instance, they will be collecting and giving
appropriate rabies vacs to the domestic animals found.  Thank you to
National Public Radio's All Things Considered for providing this
information.
