Sick -- or just fat -- ferret?

My 7 - 8 month male -- is he fat or sick?
 
He acts normal -- plenty of energy.  His belly is getting fatter all the
time.  I hope he is just a fattie.  I do not feel his vertebrae w/ the
same ease as thouse of the others in the buisiness -- he has a good deal
more padding.
 
However, at the bottom of his belly, on the sides, he now has only sparce
hair.
