I know this is OT but I know that everyone here on FML is an animal
lover, and not just ferrets.

A friend's neighbor found a little baby squirrel about 2 weeks ago. We
can only assume he fell from his nest or was pushed. He was only a few
days old, still had his eyes closed, not much fur.

I have, in the past, raised squirrels, raccoons and birds for the DNR, so
I was the one who took him in. He was adorable....trying to walk and
wobbling and falling over. He was so innocent and helpless it brought
out the mother in me (Always does!).

He had a gash on his left shoulder, right on his neck, but it was healing
nicely, and we dodn't think anything of it till yesterday. It was
swollen, so we took him to the Vet last night. (Just an aside here, if
you live in Michigan and near Mason, check out Pattersons, they are THE
best vets I know. And they treat wild animals for free.) We got an
antibiotic for him, and this morning he took it just fine. He drank
breakfast well, but toward the end of the day he was breathing heavily,
and wasn't moving around. I held him, and prayed for him, and asked TPTB
to not let him hurt anymore. He took one big breath, and that was it.

I know I will miss him for months, he was such a little wonder, and I
will never be sorry I took him in. I have photos and wonderful memories.

I was wondering if Hope could say a prayer for him, and Sandee could
greet him at the Rainbow Bridge, find him a moma squirrel who can finish
raising him and teach him what he needs to know.

Thanks,
Debra, Jewel & Kismet
