I had a ferret lose an eye to a furniture staple inside a sofa.  He had
crawled up inside the sofa and his eye was lacerated and had to be
surgically removed.  When that horrible incident happened I immediately
got rid of my sofa and loveseat and opted for a futon and I've had futons
ever since.
 
Please reconsider doing the same - I'd hate to think of another ferret
going through what my poor Eddy did.
 
Here's a pic of him after the surgery - hopefully as motivation to those
that still have sofas to please get rid of them - or at least make them
100% ferret proof (if that is possible)
