Using the name of the hospital, might it be possible for someone here
from New York to call the hospital and ask about Mr. Serrano and
whether or not we could send cards?

NEW YORK, NY, United States (UPI) -- A New York City man attempting to
wrestle back his stolen ferret was savagely beaten outside his home,
police said. [Remainder deleted due to copyright restrictions. A
summary has appeared in earlier FML issues. BIG]

And another:
Joe Serrano wanted his ferret back, and for that he got a beating from
which he may not recover.

The police are still sorting out the details of the fight, which
occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Serrano, 36, ended up at New
York-Presbyterian Hospital with critical injuries. Three or four men
attacked him, the police said, and no one had been arrested yesterday.
[.... ditto. BIG]
