Hello :) We're in another huge bind and i need to ask the assistance
of my fellow shelter moms and dads who have "legitimate" shelters. Now,
before i'm flamed about using the word "legitimate", please read on.
For the last 10+ years, the Ferret Aid Society has been running
illegally, in my home without the proper insurance or zoning to "legally"
have a "legitimate" shelter. Our new shelter is commercially zoned,
allowing for a "legal" shelter.
Our dilemma is this; because the commercial property is zoned BOTH
residential AND commercial, we are having a VERY hard time finding
insurance. Some places will insure the 'shelter' portion of the house
but not the 'residential' part while others hear that there will be
ferrets on the property and won't touch us with a 10 foot pole.
My question to all of you "legitimate" shelters out there is;
a) what insurance company insures your shelter (please provide a phone #)
b) do they insure BOTH your home and shelter in one policy or are they
separate
c) if separate, please provide BOTH insurance company numbers
d) what were the requirements for them to approve you?
This is really causing a problem and i need to fix it fast. If i
can't get insurance by next week, i can't get a mortgage and without
a mortgage, there is no shelter and i'm homeless and will be sued for
non-compliance with the contract to buy the house.
i've thought about lying that the ferrets aren't going to be there,
but in this stage of the game, it's too late, all the major insurance
companies (including the one i'm currently with) know about the kids
and have told me they can and will do spot inspections.
PLEASE anyone out there with an insured shelter, get back ASAP. THANK
YOU!!!!!
