RiccoRobertAdaTinaArtie, to help avoid this problem you should put in
osme type of "shelf" there are others who have more details... but
shelves are a definate!  check the archives there was a discussion not
too long after I joined about someone building their own cage.... the
"shelves" allow the ferrets to safely move around the cage without the
fear of a 5 foot drop out of their hammie if they roll over... or falling
5 feet while digging in their food like they aren't suppose to.  lol
I hope that the more knowledgable FMLers send you more info than this...
 
I bought my cage because building it took too much risk, as I am not good
with saws, tend to be clutsy, and have a severe attachment to my hands...
LOL... anyhow good luck and be sure to add levels... preferably full
levels with tubes or things to lead to the next one.... but good luck
and keep them safe!
